What is HD?
HD or High Definition brings you great picture quality, incredibly vivid colours, sharper images and stunning surround sound. This new service will give you a breathtaking entertainment experience right at your home.
HD gives you the following features:
- 1080i – with 1080i resolution you can view colours and images 5 times sharper than what you see today
- 16:9 Aspect ratio – Get a wider aspect ratio of 16:9 with HD as opposed to 4:3 of standard TV
- Surround Sound – Tata Sky+ HD can support 7.1 Surround sound with Dolby Digital Plus 7.1. Sit back and enjoy the cinema experience.

What do I need to enjoy television in high definition?
You will need the Tata Sky HD / Tata Sky+ HD set top box to receive the satellite transmission of higher quality HD broadcast signals. This will ensure high definition images are broadcast straight to your home without any loss of signals.
HDTV:
You will need to have either a full HD TV(supports upto 1080p) or a HD ready TV that supports 720p/1080i resolution to enjoy the Tata Sky+ HD service. All leading TV brands manufacture HD LCDs and HD Plasma TVs. HD TVs have five times more pixels than standard TVs so the level of clarity and the sharpness of the image is much higher than standard TV, ensuring that you get the best picture quality.
Home Theatre System:
Since most of the HD content is recorded with cinema style surround sound, a Home Theatre System will help you in achieving the theatre like sound effect in your home.
However, a Home Theatre System is not necessary for experiencing HD picture quality.

What channels can I watch in high definition?
You need to opt for the HD Gold Pack in order to watch high definition channels. With the HD Gold pack, you will get an access to a range of HD content with channels like National Geographic HD, Discovery HD World and Star Plus HD. You can also watch your favorite blockbusters in HD on Showcase. That's not all, live and exclusive events will be available in HD from time to time.
The HD Gold Pack is available at a subscription price of Rs 100 per month. More entertainment and sports channels that'll be added to the HD Gold pack soon.
